The Academy
The Fountain City Youth Brass Academy (FCYBA) is the educational outreach component of the Fountain City Brass Band, North America’s premiere volunteer brass and percussion ensemble. The mission of the FCYBA is to inspire young musicians of all performance ability levels to achieve a high standard of musicianship and to foster a life-long love of music.

The FCYBA provides a fun and supportive learning environment. We encourage our students to pay this forward as leaders in their school music programs.

Award Winning
Bands of the FCYBA have won numerous North American Brass Band Championships in youth and adult sections and are the reigning US Open Division II Champions.
2024 Brass Expo
In 2024, the Brass Expo is going to be bigger and better than ever before. The event will span over two weekends packed with thrilling performances and interactive sessions. On Sunday, September 15, students will have the unique opportunity to join members of the Fountain City Brass Band in rehearsals and clinics at St. James Academy. And that’s not all! On Sunday, September 22, those who attended the first weekend will get to showcase their skills and join the Fountain City Brass Band in a concert, under the baton of none other than the world-renowned composer and conductor, Johan de Meij. The venue for the concert is the stunning Folly Theatre located in the heart of downtown Kansas City.
